Follow me as I dive into the world that is cooking! There will be mishaps, burns and feasts as you watch my progression from college-student fare (pizza rolls and ramen noodles) to (hopefully) goddess of the hearth! I am always open to new recipes and ideas, so feel free to contact me.

Life in a College Town, Sans a Microwave

So my husband and I decided to move back to our college town for a few reasons.  One, I'm going back to school; not for a master's, just finishing what I started in 2004.  Two, my dude is looking at new business ventures and three we just plain like it here.  Our old neighborhood was a bit tight on their HOA (homeowner's association) restrictions, and I can now put my orange Christmas lights all over my back porch with a smile.  Also, our friends are here, and that makes everything better!
With that being said, my posts for the next few months may be few and far between, since this semester is my first one in three years and I'll be frank with you: it's overwhelming.  But it won't stop me from cooking, especially when Frankie Fights Food lives across the backyard from me!

One thing that did stop me from cooking last week was our lack of gas connection in our new home.  I was lazy and neglected to call the company before we moved, so we were without hot water or a stove/oven for about 5 days.  It doesn't sound like much, but cold showers are NOT how I prefer to start my day!  However, we enjoyed the "camping in a house" lifestyle for a short week: cooking on the grill and our awesome propane stove, ordering lots of fast food and pizza and being happily unhealthy for a short while.  Did I mention we don't have a microwave, and that I don't think I want one now?

Having a gas stove will be a new adventure you're sure to hear about soon, and I'm really enjoying the fact that I can easily reheat my food in a matter of about eight minutes in my oven.  AND it still tastes like food!  So this is what people did before microwaves...

Enough chattering from me though.  I'll be posting a new recipe in the next week once we get all of our boxes unpacked.  Thanks for stickin' with me!  Mmm, maybe homemade cinnamon rolls...
